Did you know that you can escape the hustle and bustle even in the heart of Madrid? The capital is full of parks and green spaces where you can get away from it all, you don't have to go far.
There are many places to enjoy nature in Madrid if you need to breathe fresh air and disconnect from the urban life, and these are some of our favourites. Take note!
Places to enjoy nature in Madrid
Casa de Campo
The capital's largest public park is the perfect place if you're looking to spend a great day enjoying nature in Madrid. In this magnificent green expanse, there is a large lake, trails for walking and cycling and picnic areas. There is also a sports centre with outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts and water activities. Come with friends or family to play sports or relax in the trees. To make the most of your visit, you can also take the Madrid cable car to enjoy breath-taking views of the city.
Botanical Garden of Madrid
With almost 300 years of history, the Botanical Garden is not only one of the most beautiful natural spaces in Madrid, but also a real open-air museum with a great variety of flowers and plants. More than 5,500 species of flora from all over the world can be seen in the grounds, including special collections of trees, roses, and bonsais. You can visit the Botanical Garden with a guide, free of charge, or book one of the workshops for all ages to learn about the ecosystem.
Surely the most famous green space in the Spanish capital, El Retiro park is one of the favourite places for locals and visitors alike and a true oasis of nature in the city. Its 118 hectares are home to several monuments and gardens, as well as the unique Palacio de Cristal. If you visit the city of Madrid in spring and summer, don't miss the impressive Rose Garden, with more than 4,000 rose bushes that form a spectacular natural scene in the heart of the capital.
Madrid National Park

This is a protected space full of vegetation and animal species, where in addition to hiking you can practice mountain sports such as climbing.
Parque del Capricho
Take note of one of the finest secrets of Madrid. This park was built in the 18th century and is full of fountains, temples, sculptures and even a large Civil War bunker that can be visited on a guided tour. This is one of the most beautiful green spots you will find in the capital, although it tends to go unnoticed.
The park is made up of three elegant gardens in French, English and Italian style, and is purely a place to relax and enjoy nature, as no animals, food or personal mobility vehicles are allowed.
